Hello...
Hi all,From today I will be posting my thoughts esp. on language processing, computational linguistics and theoretical linguistics. I hope that will be really interesting as it preserves and attract others' attention to the ideas and issues that I normally come across daily as I am at my work at the Language Technology Research Laboratory (LTRL - www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk/ltrl) at the University of Colombo School of Computing-Sri Lanka (UCSC- www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk) I am mainly invoved in conducting language processing and technology. In addition to that I am also interested in localization related issues and in the processing of consulting responsible government bodies such as Information & Communiation Technology Agency - Sri Lanka (www.icta.lk) through the UCSC.My current research interests are computational morphology and syntax with special reference to Sinhala. I , together with my collegues at LTRL, developed a Part of Speech Tag set for Sinhala. This tag set will be used to tag the 10 million word Sinhala Text Corpus build by the LTRL since March 2004. I will post this tag set and more information about the tagging process in the near futureDue to my keen interest on localization of techology I together with my other members, conducted a comphrehensive survey on the collation order of Sinhala. During this survey we consulted almost all the existing standard dictionaries, scholars, practioners and other related parties. As a result of this survey we oberved that there were several inconsitencies among the approches and finally provided our recommendations, based on these recommendations Sri Lanka Standard Institute called public comments regarding this matter. More information wil be posted shortly.I hope I have plenty of interesting things to share with you and I am sure that you will enjoy!!!Byedulip herath
